While the evidence for the effects of the pandemic on education have been identified, and a lot of research undertaken as to the causes and possible ways forward, less has been done to look at younger children. According to a BBC article the development of young children has been “particularly worrying”. As young children have had limited interaction outside of their immediate families some babies are now struggling with “difficulties with social interaction and social confidence”, in part due to the wearing of masks, as well as a lack of physical development. Catch-up strategies are needed now to avoid any long-term effects and permanent lags in learning.
