Children need to learn in a safe, secure and, as much as possible, a happy environment. Learning online/hybrid while covering the first two conditions, does not always live up to the last one, as parents were frequently inconvenienced and friendships – the source of much camaraderie – put on hold. This article from Education Technology highlights that “classroom-based learning remains the best environment for children’s personal development and wellbeing. Technology assists but is no substitute for the impact of a talented teacher physically present”. While digitalisation of education has obviously been a benefit for schools, relying entirely on a remote experience is neither desirable nor healthy.
