Another article that should help support the idea of keeping schools open. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, published in the Wall Street Journal, the spread of Covid-19 seems to be limited when schools ensure that mask wearing and other basic safety precautions (ventilation and screening testing where needed) are implemented. The report goes on to say “In-person schooling for children has numerous health and societal benefits, especially for children and parents of lower socioeconomic status”, where the value is more crucial to the child and the family. Clearly though there are certain sports that involve proximity and the difficulty of wearing masks – such as wrestling – that cannot be practiced, but this is hardly a team sport. The US needs to allow children back to at least one facet of normality in their lives, or will force other issues with their wellbeing.
